In an attempt to be a greener city, Austin, TX has placed a ban on plastic bags for stores around the city. It’s already in action! By doing so, they force the population to bring reusable bags with them for all their shopping needs. The stores do offer reuseable bags for those who’ve forgotten them, but for a small fee. Being one of the top major cities in the US, Austin would be setting a huge example on following greener goals to make the city a healthier one. It may seem like a tedious task, but perhaps soon this will seem second place. Maybe Houston will be next?

Craft fairs are upon us in a big way! The handmade holiday has gotten bigger and bigger each year and I smile as I glance over at the calendar with each weekend scribbled in all the way through December. The Farmecologie Lab is mostly an attendee this year, but we were pleased to be apart of a the Austin Craft Riot Goodie Bag Giveaway at their holiday fair. The two day craft event opened each day with 25 totes filled with free handmade items given to the first visitors through the door.
We supplied the cotton totes and wrapped 2 ounce bars in special gingham packaging to get a bit more festive.
I am dismayed (completely) to say due to traffic and unexpected weekend construction set back the schedule and alas there is no goodie bag here. Sigh.
Also the latest in Farmecologie news is our new totes made from recycled plastic bottles. We wanted a tote as Earth friendly as our soap.
If you are curious about craft fairs in your area you can always check out the Craft Calendar and support handmade this holiday season.
